Sarajevo, whose old Croatian name is Vrhbosna, is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located on the Miljacka River, a right tributary of the Bosnia River, in the eastern part of the Sarajevo-Zenica Basin. According to the 2013 census, the city of Sarajevo had a population of 275,524, and according to an estimate from June 2019, this number has decreased to 274,879. The wider city area has a population of more than half a million.
The city is known for its cultural and religious diversity, which includes members of the Catholic Church, Islam, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Judaism. Due to its long and rich history and affiliations, religious and cultural diversity, Sarajevo is sometimes called the “Jerusalem of Europe”
